Head-to-head racing: The core gameplay is a race against a rival character, either CPU-controlled or another player locally, where you must finish the stage first to progress.
2.5D gameplay: Races are in a traditional 2D side-scrolling view, but run through 3D environments that are filled with obstacles and traps.
Boost moves and power-ups: Players can use speed boosts and collect power-ups like fire, ice, or lightning to gain an advantage, use offensively or defensively, or trip up opponents.
Character abilities: Each character has their own unique signature moves and abilities. You can also knock into opponents to try and get them off course.
Multiplayer: The game supports wireless multiplayer, allowing players to race against each other on the PSP system.
Card collecting: Collectible cards can be earned by completing certain tasks and can be traded with other players in wireless mode.
Modes: Besides the Story Mode, the game includes Challenge Mode and Cup Mode.
